Introduction
Cardiogenic shock occurs when a cardiac disorder means it can no longer supply adequate blood and oxygen to vital organs. This causes a life-threatening state known as hypoperfusion that can rapidly lead to multi-organ failure and death.
Early identification of cardiogenic shock, rapid intervention to reverse the underlying cause, and immediate haemodynamic stabilisation with or without the use of mechanical circulatory support (MSC) technologies are vital to improve survival.

The Pan-London Cardiogenic Shock Board was established in late 2023 and the first board meeting was convened in Feb 2024. The Pan-London Cardiogenic Shock Programme’s main aim is to operationalise the Shock to Survival Report for London. Specifically outlined in the diagram below.
Benefits
Many centres across London have existing cardiogenic shock pathways within their institutions and the Pan-London Shock Board aims to join up these existing pathways.
By establishing transport, education & training, robust data collection and imaging protocols for shock, patients experiencing the condition will see improved equity of access to care regardless of which centre you present at across London.
