The World Health Organisation (WHO) is promoting World Antimicrobial Awareness Week (WAAW), 18-24 November, a global campaign that is celebrated annually to improve awareness and understanding of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and encourage best practices among the public, stakeholders and policymakers, who all play a critical role in reducing the further emergence and spread of AMR.
The ODN’s OPAT pilot project at King’s College Hospital aligns with antimicrobial stewardship, and provides for appropriate patients to be cared for at home. This initiative is also uncovering saved bed days, as clinical experts are identifying patients across various pathways who would be better served outside of the hospital setting.
